The Pizza Company: The BBQ Chicken & Bacon Bonanza

Bought from Tesco for £5.00. I was totally taken in by the packaging I've got to admit. To me it looks very clean with a little window to show you what's inside which is quite enticing. It's sold as a fresh pizza that you are able to freeze if needed.

Cooking was simple - 13 minutes at 200°C in the middle of the oven and it came out looking like this and the BBQ aroma was quite evident as it came out of the oven.

My preference is always a crisp base but this one was a bit chewy (it does say this on the packaging so I can't be upset). The first bite revealed a tangy barbecue flavour, which was lovely, but not much else. As I continued through it was more of the same. The chicken and bacon were relatively sparse although quite flavoursome but the biggest disappointment was the lack of cheese. The peppers and onions didn't pack much of a punch either - shame.

You get a lot of pizza here (nearly 1200 calories) but it's just a bit dull. With all these toppings (and the price) I was expecting a veritable cornucopia of delights and, to that end, I was quite disappointed. However, when I back for round 2 after it had cooled, there were more complex flavours going on - problem is, who has the time to wait around for a pizza to cook and cool before enjoying it?

Would I buy it again? Probably not.

See where The BBQ Chicken & Bacon Bonanza came in my very own league
